History
1927
Chartered on June 7, 1927, IUEC Local 84 began serving the areas of Allentown and Reading, Pennsylvania, with early members playing a critical role in the development of major projects in the region, including the PPL Tower in Allentown, a key commercial structure, and the Berks County Courthouse in Reading, which has become a regional landmark and tourist attraction.

Expansion and Mergers
On July 1, 1987, Local 84 merged with Local 76, ongoing a significant expansion in the process. The merger with Local 76, previously headquartered in the Scranton and Wilkes-Barre area, enlarged Local 84’s jurisdiction and influence across Northeastern Pennsylvania. To support this new, larger territory, Local 76 elected a full-time Business Manager to provide comprehensive representation and oversight across the entire jurisdiction.
Today
Today, Local 84 serves a broad and varied region in Pennsylvania, encompassing Allentown and Reading as well as the expanded Scranton and Wilkes-Barre areas. Local 84 members continue to work on key infrastructure projects and support legacy and new construction sites, ensuring safety and technological advancements are consistently implemented across their region of influence.
